Per Tripadvisor, about half of travelers are looking to book a trip, implying considerable pent-up demand for sand and surf. However, in close to half of states, including beach resorts like Florida, the search for a beach getaway correlates with recent increases in coronavirus cases. According to the National Recreation and Park Association, the good news for beachgoers is that just over 80 percent of beaches are now open, a hefty increase from just 56 percent two weeks ago.
Some recently implemented changes include crowd control parking limitations, boundaries on outdoor activities such as sunbathing as well as banning items like coolers, benches, umbrellas, and other beach equipment. Beach rules differ widely between city and county, and before heading out, visitors should review the regulations for their destination.
Also in Miami this month, beaches are back but groups of more than ten people are not allowed. Furthermore, a social distancing of ten feet is required among different groups, and canopies are also not allowed. Masks are required if social distancing is not feasible.
