Tips for the Best Miami Vacation

It’s no surprise that Miami continues to be one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. With its beautiful beaches, year-round warm weather, an impressive arts district, and delicious food, it’s the makings of a dream vacation. Before you plan your next vacation to Miami consider these tips.

Brush up on your Spanish! Miami has a large Spanish-speaking community, so chances are you will be spoken to in Spanish. If you don’t know the language – don’t worry. There are many great apps out there, like Duolingo, that can help you pick up key phrases fast!

Miami has its own rail system, Metrorail, but it stops running at midnight. Uber, on the other hand, runs the entire night! You can be sure you will get from point A to point B safely after a night on the town.

While Miami Beach is the most famous attraction in Miami, it isn’t the only one. Virginia key beach is just as beautiful and has less of a crowd. Crandon Park, located on Key Biscayne, is full of family-friendly fun and loads of water sports.

Miami is one of the best vacation spots in the country. Book your next vacation here for a trip full of new experiences and tons of fun!

South Florida Magazine Publishes Staycation Guide

We are all about catering to tourists and helping them enjoy the South Florida experience to the max, but we also know that plenty of reasons exist to enjoy a good staycation, especially in South Florida. The popular Ocean Drive magazine recently provided a guide to the “ultimate Miami staycation”. Let’s explore some of the highlights that made the guide.

We’ll kick things off in the Brickell and downtown area of Miami. Seaspice is one of the places mentioned. Overlooking the Miami River, this place is open Tuesday through Friday for happy hour from 5 pm to 7 pm. Bring along a friend or loved one and toast to life or anything you may find toast-worthy while enjoying the beautiful vistas.

Also making the list is a longtime local favorite: Vizcaya Museum and Garden. This historic landmark features the beautiful mansion itself and over forty lush acres of impeccably maintained gardens that are absolutely picturesque and will likely have you snapping multiple selfies.

Let’s move on to Miami Beach. If you’re looking for some live performance art, the Faena Theater emulates the feel of an opera house in Europe and often features shows centered around cabaret performances.

After you’ve visited the Faena Theater, grab some Korean grub at Drunken Dragon or key lime pie at the South Beach staple Joe’s Stone Crab. The latter has desserts and its stone cab is a must-have if you have a seafood palate.

Whether it’s a staycation or vacation, we can help you find the right South Florida vacation rentals. Should you need something more specialized, we also offer Miami Beach vacation rentals.

Florida Spring Break Continues to Be Popular

As more people receive the vaccine, travel has begun to see adoption again, including Spring Break vacations. With its gorgeous beaches and countless recreational opportunities, it’s no surprise that Florida remains a popular Spring Break and year-round vacation destination.

Air travel is now increasing in popularity. The Transportation Safety Administration announced earlier this month that it screened over one million passengers at airports, the largest number of people screened in a single day since early March last year. However, analysts in the airline industry claim that this only reflects about sixty percent of the pre-pandemic volume.

Although figures suggest people are becoming more familiar with flying, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to warn against unnecessary flight, including for those who have been vaccinated.

Road trips are also an excellent option for spring break and some other travel this year. Some people may expect to use their stimulus checks to go on holidays, which will be good news for Florida’s tourism industry. Road trips also provide a way of traveling without the risk of being near others for an extended period.

Remember that we have a host of South Florida vacation rentals available for those wishing to experience South Florida during the spring or the upcoming summer season. We can help guide you on some of the hottest (no pun intended) places to relax and unwind like Miami Beach, Coconut Grove, Fort Lauderdale, Downtown Miami vacation rentalsand more. We also offer a medical tourism package for those wishing to visit South Florida for health or cosmetic procedures.

Weather the Winter in South Florida

The major news this week is the unprecedented winter storms and below zero temperatures affecting most of the country. States like Texas are facing power outages and well, the weather is not the most ideal as people bundle up and do whatever they can to stay warm.

Meanwhile, South Florida remains unaffected by the frigid wrath of Mother Nature. The region arguably has the only habitable weather in the country right now. If circumstances allow for it, spending some time in South Florida may be a good way to weather the storm.

Whether you’re looking to travel for medical tourism or an escape from the winter storms, the team at SoFLA Vacations is ready to help you find the best places to experience places like the “Magic City” of Miami, classic Coconut Grove, the “Venice of America” Fort Lauderdale, and much more. Please contact us to see what deals and discounts may be available.

From everyone at SoFLA Vacations, we hope everyone affected by the winter weather is safe.

Florida Keys Experience Becomes One Woman’s Home

A Business Insider article shares the story of a woman who was living in Maine. She was working as a therapist part-time and also writing on the side, with plans to publish another book after already having one on the market. Eventually, the woman decided to quit her therapist job and concentrate fully on making writing a career. That decision also included a move to the Florida Keys where the couple decided to try living on a sailboat for six months.

The six months have now become five years and the woman calls the move to Florida “the best decision ever”. Among the reasons why she is so happy with the move, she cites the weather in the Florida Keys which allows her to spend more time outdoors, something that is further enhanced by the fact that she lives on the water. The woman praises the fact that she can enjoy the weather “all year long”.

While you may like where you live, the Florida Keys are a great option when you’re considering a vacation. Conact us to learn more about what vacation rentals may be available.

Discover “The Grove” in Miami

The glitz and glam of Miami Beach ensure its perennial appeal but when you want to experience something scenic yet quieter, consider Coconut Grove. “The Grove” continues to be a longtime classic, and one of the oldest Miami neighborhoods, known for its many virtues, including its ever-modern beauty, many amenities, vibrant art scene, and lots more.

Coconut Grove has no shortage of art for those seeking to indulge. A famous event is the yearly Coconut Grove Arts Festival, where artistic individuals line the streets showcasing their paintings, handcrafted items, and more. The Goombay Festival metamorphoses Coconut Grove into something similar to the Caribbean Carnaval. These events may, however, be on hold.

The Vizcaya Museum and Gardens features carefully preserved, exuberant Italian Renaissance Gardens for those that like to be among nature, in addition to the classical villa and estate that once served as the residence of James Deering, a man with a rich South Florida history.

South Florida and water are closely tied. You have the option of venturing off into the water from Dinner Key Marina on a fishing boat charter. CocoWalk has numerous stores and restaurants for shopping and dining. Coconut Grove is close to the iconic city of Coral Gables as well as the downtown area of Miami, meaning that there is still plenty to do near your holiday rental in Coconut Grove.

Staying home is still the safest option, but if you’re planning on doing any traveling in 2021, where will you be going? Harper’s Bazaar is one of the most well-known and oldest fashion magazines in the country and it recently talked about “The 20 Best Places to Travel in 2021”.

Harper’s Bazaar calls the “Magic City” the “…hotbed of the country’s arts scene and the crucible of Latin cultures” while also praising its “youthful” vibe. A Brief History of the Florida Keys

The Calusa and Tequesta tribes were the original inhabitants of the Florida Keys, and famous Spanish explore Juan Ponce de León chartered them in 1513. He dubbed the islands Los Martires (“The Martyrs”), as they appeared like suffering when viewed from a distance. “Key” comes from the word cayo, which translates to small island in Spanish. Key West has been Florida’s main town for several years, and it experienced wealth on wrecking revenues. For trade with Cuba and the Bahamas, the remote outpost was ideally situated. Improved shipping resulted in a reduction in shipwrecks, and in the late nineteenth century, Key West went through a slump.

Originally, the Keys could only be accessed via water but this changed once the Overseas Railway by Henry Flagler was built in the early 1900s. The railroad bridges, including the famous Seven Mile Bridge, were turned into vehicle roadways after the devastation of the Keys railway by the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. This carriageway, U.S. The Overseas Highway that passes from Key Largo south to Key West has become Highway 1. Nowadays, this special highway makes it possible to fly through the Florida Keys tropical islands and see native plants and animals seen nowhere else on the US mainland and the longest coral reef chain in the country.

Tips for Experiencing South Florida

Florida is recognized for its world-class beaches but there is so much more to it than that. If you don’t explore beyond the beach, you may be missing out on a fun, engrossing, and exciting adventure. Should you decide to [safely] travel to Florida in 2021, consider these tips.

Venture beyond the beach. From the Everglades to attractions like the self-guided Lion Country Safari and the Art Deco of Miami Beach, you owe it to yourself to see what else South Florida has in store. Conversely, if you haven’t scheduled a beach day, make sure to do so.

Bring sunscreen. There are many reasons why Florida is known as “The Sunshine State” and among them is the powerful sun. Even on those days when the sun isn’t out at full blast, make sure you’re applying reef-safe sunscreen with at least 30 SPF. Sunburns can happen rapidly, trust us.

The Florida Keys await. Are you seeking a tropical island escape without the airfare? The Florida Keys are a must-visit. The 120-mile archipelago extends from Key Largo down to popular Key West, home of the country’s southernmost point of the continental United States (don’t forget to snap the obligatory photo). Each “key” has its distinct charm and the lifestyle reinforces laid back, relaxing, and enjoying the tranquil, scenic, natural ambiance.
